Maria Majcher

Artist. Graphic Designer. A sensitive individualist.

Maria Emilia Majcher

Maria Emilia Majcher was born in April 2002. She loved art from a very young age; every day, small creations filled her room. Drawing, painting, constructing, and sculpting were Marysia's passions, which led her to consistently follow her chosen educational path.

In 2022, she graduated from the Władysław Hasior Secondary School of Fine Arts in Koszalin. Her diploma thesis, titleda pt. "Oto my" (Here We Are) , focused on the anatomical structures of the human body. She sought to reveal their beauty, spending countless days and hours studying numerous anatomical atlases.

Maria was not a follower of conventional teaching methods. She always created her own visions of the world, producing what she felt rather than what was imposed on her. She was a true individualistwho always went against the grain. Deeply sensitive, creative, and a bit rebellious – she never shied away from difficult subjects and bravely expressed her opinions.

In 2022, she began her studies at the Academy of Art in Szczecin, majoring in Printmaking. She repeatedly emphasized how happy she felt there. She was fulfilling her dreams, finally able to spread her wings without restraint. She poured immense heart into her linocut series titled "Women in Our Family". Despite the strain on her hands and back, she spent hours carving the figures of herself, her mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sisterinto the linoleum block. In light of subsequent events, this work became one of the most significant pieces of her legacy.

Her spiritual guide was Frida KahloMaria’s penultimate work was an interpretation of Frida’s "The Broken Column". Marysia often quoted her mentor:

"Feet, what do I need them for if I have wings to fly?"

Tragically, the later events of her life became dramatically intertwined with the fate of her idol... In her creative work, she was also inspired by Louise Bourgeois and Marina Abramović, as well as Catholic and Orthodox iconography. She was a wonderful, sensitive human being – she loved people and animals, supported minority rights, and always helped those in need.

Sadly, following a tragic accident during university classes and a six-month battle for her life, Maria passed away… The winter day of December 6, 2023, will forever remain a painful scar in the memory of her loved ones. Although Maria is no longer with us, her works remain, carrying a profound new significance.
